What is Shiatsu Bodywork?
Acupuncture Without the Needles + Assisted Stretching
Shiatsu is a form of Japanese bodywork that is based on the meridian system developed by Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Often referred to as “acupuncture without the needles,” shiatsu combines assisted-stretching techniques and palm, finger, and thumb pressure along meridian pathways to stimulate a healthy flow of life force energy and bring healing to your body and mind.
Shiatsu regulates the autonomic nervous system and stimulates the circulatory, lymphatic, and hormonal systems.
Conditions Treated and Benefits
Shiatsu is beneficial for alleviating:
Muscle tension
Joint pain
Acute injury
Digestive disturbances
Insomnia
Menstrual dysfunction
Common emotional disturbances (anxiety, depression)
Shiatsu enhances other forms of complementary medicine, such as acupuncture and naturopathy. If you have a daily vitamin, mineral, or supplement regimen, shiatsu can enhance it’s benefits by promoting assimilation and circulation of the nutrients. Shiatsu also helps to build your immunity.
Your Shiatsu Bodywork
Your 60-minute shiatsu bodywork will take place on a futon mat on the floor of a private room. You will be fully clothed (wear gym-clothes!) and your whole body will receive treatment, even if you have a localized complaint.
After your shiatsu treatment, you will feel very calm, relaxed, and clear-headed. You may also notice a greater sense of ease and balance in your body and mind.
